Turning Your Handwriting into a Font
Fonts are so important in design. They set the tone and mood for your website. When used effectively, fonts can help attract an audience and convey meaning beyond what the words are saying. When font choice isn’t effective, it can have the opposite effect on your readers. It is so important to have a font with an attractive appearance to add aesthetic value to your product. If your font is not attractive to your target audience, you are going to lose readers.
There are so many fonts available! But why not create a font that is unique to you? It will add a human element to your site, express your individuality, and help create and build recognition for your brand. And it is so easy to do!
To create my handwriting font, I used the website calligraphr.com. (They also have an app if you prefer to go that route.) Their basic font creation service is free, but if you want more control and options for creating your own font, you can upgrade to a paid membership. Either way you choose, you can create as many fonts as you want! You do have to create an account with them to use their services, but they don’t collect any payment info unless you upgrade.
So here’s the basic process:
Download and print out their template.
Fill out the template with a black pen (felt pens work better than ballpoint pens).
Scan or take a picture of your completed template and upload it to the app/website.
Click “Build Font” and wait for your font to be created.
Download and install your font to your computer. (Fonts are created with standard font formats, so you will download and install these fonts the same way you do with any other fonts.)
